I am looking for some historical information on my family who may have lived in Garrison, Minnesota around 1888; my great great Aunt, Elizabeth Dykeman (nee Foster / Forster / Forrester).  My connection to my family is through her maiden name.  Her husband was David D Dykeman.  Given that this is such an unusual or uncommon name, I wondered whether there are any ancestors who continue to live in that area of Minnesota.  I believe that they also spent time in French Lakes, Minnesota around 1865.

I wanted it up north, and that the main charactor worked in a factory. So, after some research on the web. I came accross the Paper Mill in Sartell, MN. Since I've never even been to the state of Minnesota, I instead decided I would create a fictional city modeled after Sartell. (So now it would be easier to write since I wouldn't have to worry about economic or geographical errors.) But I still need some info. The story takes place in 1964, so I was hoping someone out there could answer the following:
-- In 1964 (Or the early sixties) what was the economy like in Sartell? Did the Paper Mill pretty much make the heart of the city?
-- What was it like working there? (Or now?)
-- How bad was the smell? (I read that on Wikipedia.)
-- General life in Sartell in the sixties.
-- A little off subject, but were trailer parks common in Sartell? Even in the winter?
Those are the big questions. Any help at all will be appreciated. Thank you for reading this message.
