For you own safety, do NOT visit Peoria. Last time I visited, we stayed at a Ramada on War Memorial. We came back from dinner around midnight. I had hiccups, so I sat by the closed pool area (the sight and sound of water sometimes makes hiccups go away). Almost immediately a worm of a night clerk came over and ordered me to leave. I started to explain why I wanted to sit there (quietly, without booze or music or women) he whipped out his cell and called 911. Not wanted police trouble, I went back to the room immediately. Within minutes, four Peoria cops knocked on the door, put me in handcuffs (no kidding), then threw me, my wife, our two young daughters (crying hysterically), and our dog out into the night. They said we were trespassing. How we could be trespassing when we had paid for the room is beyond me. I wrote letters to the Peoria cops, the mayor and the chamber of commerce, and Ramada but never heard a thing. Ramada kept all our money.

Bottom line--Do NOT visit Peoria unless you like being abused by police, and do NOT stay at Ramada. They may throw you out and keep the money.

The Dead Man's Curse in Illinois?

Has anyone ever read this, heard of this, or been affected by this Curse?

The DEAD MAN’S CURSE
DEER CREEK, ILLINOIS

You see, as the story allegedly goes, a man here in Deer Creek Illinois was so emotionally hurt and traumatized that he screamed an evil Terrible Curse as he cried in pain from a betrayal by the one he loved half of his adult life. As it has been told and retold these past few years, teenagers just learning to drive will die all over Tazewell County in freak accidents, cancer and other diseases will haunt Deer Creek Residents, freak accidents will take place, tires will go flat for no reason, nails will rain from the sky, boils will suddenly appear, stray bullets from hunters rifles will find their way into the homes of those who live here, dogs suddenly will turn on their masters, young people will grow up wanting to flea from this area to live elsewhere, businesses will fail, solid old marriages will fail, and a time will come that the winds will blow so hard it will destroy two third’s of the entire Village of Deer Creek Illinois. It is said that a jeweler, crazy from being betrayed by his wife of 22 years, buried a treasure of gold, diamonds, precious gems, grenades, guns and ammunition someplace in Deer Creek. His family allegedly said that he would grin and say that when his name was finally on the deed to his property, his things safe in his possession, or the possession of his descendants, the curse would be lifted, but until then, to the end of time, he cursed those of the type who hurt him so deeply. This man's last residence in Deer Creek Illinois has grown to be known as Hell’s Half Acre and all who will ever live there, visit there or walk upon it’s soil will be forever haunted by the Dead Man's Curse. It has been told that the days between October 3rd and midnight on October 31st are the days of mourning, and if you don’t wear black during these days you, your children and their children shall bear the Dead Man’s Curse. As told and retold by residents of Tazewell County Illinois, to throw a rock thru the window of the small house on Hell’s Half Acre in Deer Creek is to honor the Dead Man’s Curse thus being removed from it’s spell. (We don't recommend nor condone such illegal actions). As the story goes, a boulder, a headstone, past down for generations was stolen and buried here in Deer Creek and until this simple boulder is placed upon this man’s grave, all forms of evil will run thru the homes of those who read this curse and of who live in Deer Creek Illinois. Some say it’s this boulder actually leaches out the very evil that spoils the waters of Deer Creek. Others say they have seen this man walking in the park at night, and sometimes, local farmers have seen him walking down corn rows at harvest time. And on Halloween, some say they have seen him jump out of a pile of leaves. At night, on Hells Half Acre , sometimes, when the stars are really clear, some say you can see him crying in his yard and other nights screaming under the full moon in the park. Others say he walks around at night carrying a sledge hammer, swinging a bloody axe while wearing a mask of an old man with grey hair and has deep red bloody eyes. But of all these alleged stories and sightings, one legend is appears true, because the park at night is no place to be when Hell’s Half Acre is under the Southern Sky of Deer Creek Illinois as you stand under the flag pole in the park. A photo of him and his the son he lost to hate and evil, of them standing next to a chuck wagon was the key to his only happiness. For a man without a son’s love, without his things about him is not a man and with that he would say that none would be safe from his curse until all was set right that was wronged him. And with that he would wipe a tear from his red eyes and bear up all the anger inside him to give him strength to go on. If only a day of forgiveness to come to Hell’s Half Acre he might finally rest. But, the legend of the Dead Man’s Curse grows with each new reporting of such terrible deaths, reports of cancer, troubles and haunting sad events that can’t be discounted as not having some kind of connection to the Dead Man’s Curse. This man allegedly screamed Even though I have long since forgiven my wife, If you are a descendant of L. E. and Margie Elrod, or carry the last name of Elrod, you and your descendants shall be carry the curse until all is set right that wronged me. Residents of Deer Creek want to keep this quiet, deny it’s existence and allegedly even cover up the events as they may know them. The Curse grows, and is passed on from one person to another, because once this curse is read, it is said that you are cursed if you don’t pass it on to ten others. But it is said that if you get a visit by Jehovas Witnesses at your home, you are plagued by the Dead Man’s Curse forever unless you place a dead black rabbit upon the doorstep of the residence on Hell’s Half Acre at midnight on the eve of Halloween. The curse spreads out like a plague upon liars, thieves, cheats, adulterers, and especially on woman who betray their spouses out of hateful revenge, for who there is no place to run or hide from the curse.. The children of these types are most affected, but none are safe from the Dead Man’s Curse. For this crazy jeweler, filled with sadness and anger, was a good man allegedly betrayed by an evil woman with spite in her heart, and only those who walk with Jesus, treating everyone they meet as they themselves want to be treated, can be saved from his curse if they follow the clues.

Of course, it’s only a story, So unless you are superstitious, I guess we are all safe. Some say that once you have read the Dead Man's Curse, no matter where you are, the curse will affect your life and of those you love. The curse has spread out upon the lands, growing and moving from town to town across the world as this curse and the stories that continue to grow and the curse has continued to be an interesting conversation here in Deer Creek especially among our young people. Some worry about it’s meaning, some worry about what might result in their own lives, others say, come on people, it’s only a story, a legend, somebody’s fictional imagination at work. After all, nobody could ever be so emotionally hurt to ever utter such a curse. Yet others, after reading the Dead Man’s Curse, make a choice to walk with caution in their actions. As for the one who allegedly screamed the curse, he died by his own hands on October 14th, 2003 in a barn built by three generations of the mans family, a father, a son and a grandfather. But some say, as the legend of the Dead Man's Curse spreads across the country, this man was reborn and walks at the right side of Jesus in a brand new life.

OTHER VARIATIONS OF THE CURSE:
There are other variations of this curse with very small differences that have been reported, but this one is the most extensive yet found.

THE DEAD MAN'S CURSE TREASURE:
Many have talked about the treasure of gold, diamonds, precious stones, grenades, guns, and ammunition that connects to the Dead Man's Curse . Most people wanting to research this story are in search of the treasure and miss the importance of the words within the curse itself. Is the famous boulder the actual treasure, only treasure, or, in fact, did this jeweler actually bury a real treasure? This is but one of the many questions we are trying to answer in our research of the Dead Man's Curse .

THE SON OF THE JEWELER: Jeff, as he liked to be called, knows the fate of the famous boulder, the headstone that was disposed of and is sought by so many of us. But, unfortunately, this young man is so full of hate that he felt he just had to permanently dispose of it and keep this headstone from his father. None of us have been able to convince him to tell us where it ended up, Even after allegedly offering money as a reward, this now famous boulder has not been produced or found.

http:// deemackdeadmanscurse.bravehost .com
