My grandfather,Frank Faudree, was born in your town in 1880. Is there a Court House or a place I can go to get information? I believe he was orphaned but I don't know what year.My aunt said that he was brought up in Smith's orphanage, which burned down.
His father's name was Clifford and his mother was Florence. He married Alma Chapman from Springfield, Ohio in 1911. I also know he served in the US Army.
Thanks for your help.
Cliff Faudree

Cliff, This is so interesting! Though I can't help you with your request for information, I, too, just came to this site to post about looking for MY GRANDMOTHER!! My mother & her twin sister were also orphaned @ the Ramey Children's Home in Ashland, Ky, in 1953, & lived there till they were 19. They never found their parents or siblings (they supposedly have 2 older sisters). I am desperately looking for my grandparents, or ANY family information thereof, but with only my grandmother's name, & a little more info to go by. But Cliff, the reason your ad struck me is that the lady I am looking for, my maternal grandmother, her name is Helen Chapman!!! According to an anonymous letter I received after a Letter to the Editor in 2001 of the Herald Dispatch, Helen was 31 when she had "the twins" in 1953. The author states that she had 2 other daughters already, the oldest named Laura? (age 5 or 6 in 1953), & the younger daughter was 3 or 4. They say the Chapman family lived on Buffalo Creek Road in Lawrence County, Oh. (which could have been changed to North Kenova Road or Chesapeake, OH.) The last time this person saw my grandmother was in March or April of 1953, & several months later the house on Buffalo Creek was empty & they heard the family moved to Oak Hill & that Helen had given birth to twin daughters. The letter ends stating they "heard talk as late as 1985 that she worked in or owned a small grocery store in Oak Hill, Oh."
I just thought maybe there could be some connection here; maybe a missing link to my search. I know Chapman is a common name (unfortunately), but just wondered if your grandmother Alma may be related to my grandmother Helen in some way? Any information you may have would be soo very helpful, & greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much in advance,
Summer Lopez
