Press Release: Google Custom Search Engine

New Geo-Centric Google Custom Search Engine Available

Google Launch Partner CityTownInfo.com. provides enhanced search for finding information on cities and towns across the U.S

MARLBOROUGH, MA. CityTownInfo.com has released a Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) that provides enhanced search for people looking for information on cities and towns across the U.S (the "City Town CSE"). Additionally, CityTownInfo.com is making its the City Town CSE available to third party publishers for publication on their web sites.

Users can use employ the City TownCityTownInfo's CSE to find the latest information on any U.S. city or town, including the latest news, maps, weather, housing, demographics, where to stay when visiting, and much more.

Eric Enge, VP of Marketing for Moving Traffic, the publisher of CityTownInfo.com, noted that "The Google Custom Search Engine announcement is a dramatic step in the direction of distributed search. Google has recognized the fundamental limitations of algorithmic search. Human editors are needed to address these limitations, and CSEs provide a powerful mechanism for enlisting human editors to improve search quality."

CityTownInfo.com employs a team of human editors that have reviewed thousands of candidate sites to determine their placement in the City Townits CSE. As a Google Launch Partner, CityTownInfo.com has been working on the City Town CSE for an extended period of time working closely (or in conjunction?) with Google to develop its CSE optimized for city and town searching. Ongoing enhancements are planned.

Example search results are available on the CityTownInfo.com web site at .

Google Custom Search Engine (CSE) Talking Points

Listed below are a list of key points associated with the CSE press announcement above:

  • CSE addresses the need for a human edited element in today's computer -based search algorithms
  • This development creates competition for purely human-edited directories such as DMOZ and Yahoo's Directory. CSE is an attempt to blend computer-based algorithms with human knowledge of quality web sites to create a more perfect search engine.
  • Google's CSE opens the door to an unlimited number of specialized searches that were previously only possible with hundreds or thousands of hours of expensive programming. CSE will be accessible to any subject expert with a strong list of quality web sites on their topic.
  • CSE may spawn a number of formal and informal collaborative custom search projects focused on particular topics of interest.
  • CSE may fuel a new cottage industry of custom search developers who focus on creating topic-specific search engines
  • Developers are free to distribute their custom search engines to third party web sites.
  • If you are a member of the press or a blogger who wishes to discuss any of these points with us, please contact our VP of Marketing, Eric Enge at …
